Spotlighting San Diego

On Tuesday, April 21, 2015, National Geographic premiered a documentary film highlighting San Diego as one of the most innovative and forward-thinking regions on the planet to a lively audience that packed the theater at Copely Symphony Hall.  The evening’s events were hosted by Joe Terzi, the CEO of the San Diego Tourism Authority who put together a coalition of 24 major supporters to raise the funding required to produce the documentary.  Mayor Kevin Faulconer, an enthusiastic supporter of the project, was on hand to introduce the documentary’s host, Andrew Evans, and to see the film for the first time himself.  San Diego is the only North American city to be included National Geographic’s four-part “Smart Cities” series.

On April 25, 2015, The National Geographic Channel broadcast the hour-long documentary which is expected to be seen in 60 countries and by over 272 million households.  The film will be broadcast again on the National Geographic Channel at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2015.

This welcome international publicity for San Diego is timely as Global San Diego gears up for launch in the upcoming months.  Please watch for future announcements as we prepare to “Bring the world to San Diego and San Diego to the world” by actively engaging local nonprofits to promote and facilitate cooperation and collaboration among them to maximize efficiencies and effectiveness. Together, we truly will be stronger!
